CETC's prizewinning students

CETC STUDENTS SCOOP TOP PRIZES

Students studying for the Professional Accountancy Qualification (PAQ) at CIPFA Education and Training Centre (CETC) have been celebrating lately. Not only are pass rates for December 2005 exams higher than the national average but 6 CETC students have scooped 7 of the 9 CIPFA prizes for their achievements in the December 2005 Final Test of Professional Competence (FTPC) level PAQ exams.

3 of the prizewinning students were from CETC’s inaugural PAQ Fast Track course, which is endorsed by PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG, and reflects the success of this innovative programme. The prizewinning CETC students are:

  • David Kane, Wolverhampton City Council (CETC Midlands) - Best Overall & Best FMCS
  • Chris Busby, PricewaterhouseCoopers (CETC South East) - 2nd best FMCS
  • Jill Howard, PricewaterhouseCoopers (CETC South East) - 3rd best FMCS
  • Dan Stickland, PricewaterhouseCoopers (CETC South East) - 3rd best SBM
  • Duncan Laird, Audit Commission (CETC West of England) - Best Audit Commission student
  • Louise Elliott, University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust (CETC Midlands) - Best NHS student

This news reinforces the overall good set of results for December 2005 exams experienced by CETC. Gary Gilbert, Head of CETC, comments: “CETC students frequently feature prominently in these prizes and this performance reflects, and rewards, their hard work and the dedicated support of the tutors. They go to prove that attending added value classes can really help students excel. From all at CETC we’d like to congratulate these six students on their outstanding achievements.”

In addition, CETC PAQ student Oliver Woodhams of Staffordshire County Council has been named as the winner of CETC’s John Sandbach Memorial Prize.

The prize is awarded annually by CETC to the student studying at one of its four centres with the highest overall marks at Diploma level. The award was developed after the sudden death in 2003 of John Sandbach who at the time was chairman of the CETC Governing Body, and commemorates his role in setting high standards for financial management in the public services.

Oliver is the third student to win the John Sandbach Award, on winning he says: “I am extremely pleased to have won this prize and very grateful for the support I received, both from the staff at CETC Midlands and from Staffordshire County Council.”

Gary Gilbert adds: “Oliver is an extremely worthy winner and I’d like to wish him every success at his final stages of the PAQ.”

Oliver will be presented with the award in May 2006 at the CETC prizewinners’ lunch which will be attended by Governors, staff, and other CETC prizewinners.
