General Topics

  • www.cipfa.org.uk. Use this link to find out more about open learning material, exams, and support for students.
  • www.privatefinance-i.com. The private finance initiative is relevant to all CIPFA students. This site gives up to the minute news on this controversial and highly topical subject. You can register with the site to receive notification of new information.
  • www.tisonline.net A valuable reference source for all matters relating to financial management across the public services. Started by CIPFA in 1967 and now available online. CIPFA students could be entitled to a discounted rate if their organisation doesn't already subscribe.


For help with modules

  • www.asb.org.uk. The Accounting Standards Board set accounting standards. The site gives details of current issues and allows you to register to be e-mailed with news from ASB and related sites. It will help you keep up to date with issues related to Accounting Theory & Practice.
  • www.apb.org.uk. The Auditing Practices Board issues auditing standards. The site includes summaries of recent exposure drafts and may help you keep up to date with audit related issues.
  • www.audit-commission.gov.uk. The Audit Commission is responsible for the audit of local government and NHS organisations. Its site includes a section on performance indicators.
  • www.dataprotection.gov.uk. This is the site of the UK Data Protection Commissioner and contains a lot of useful information to help you keep up to date with the Data Protection Act. The full text of the Act is available at: www.legislation.hmso.gov.uk.
  • www.doh.gov.uk/nhs.htm. The home page of the NHS Executive site includes links to performance indicator tables and a variety of other NHS topics.
  • www.doh.gov.uk/publications/coinh.html. This holds all the Health Service Circulars which include specifics on various accounting and management issues.
  • www.hfma.org.uk. This site gives useful information on developments within NHS financial management, which includes synopses of various HFMA publications that can be downloaded.
  • www.hm-treasury.gov.uk. HM Treasury site with information on the workings of Central Government finances and details on the Budget. Of interest to students of Public Finance and Taxation.
  • www.mathcentre.ac.uk/students.php/business/ This is a site that provides help with basic maths.
  • www.nao.gov.uk. The National Audit Office audits central government. Its site includes the full text of many recent value for money studies and other audit related matters.
  • www.whatis.com. An excellent glossary of terms related to information systems and IT. Useful in keeping up to date generally.
