What can you expect?

Attending a CETC course will help you get to grips with the key concepts and techniques in the syllabus and prepare you for the examination.

Tuition is delivered in classrooms at CETC and will involve lectures, group discussions, syndicate group working, student presentations, progress tests and work on examination standard questions.

Classes are delivered by experienced and professionally qualified tutors who are on hand to help with any queries or questions you may have. You will be given comprehensive handouts and notes to help you through your studies in and out of class.

A teaching plan will also be provided at the start of the course. This will show the planned allocation of teaching hours across the syllabus, indicate any syllabus areas that won’t covered in the teaching plans, cross-reference each area to CIPFA’s Study Guides, and state the syllabus areas that are examinable in the progress test. It's also important that you put together your own personal study plan to support your study at CETC.

How you can have a say?

You can contribute to the way courses are run at CETC through the Course Committees and Course Evaluation Questionnaires.

Course Committees

The Courses Committees meet twice a year in March and September in each of the locations. The members of the committee are CETC’s Management (the Head of CETC and Course Directors), external quality assurance representative, student representatives from each course, and two employer representatives appointed by the employers’ meeting. The student representatives will gather the views of their group and bring these to the meetings for discussion.

The student representatives are elected at the beginning of each course by their peers. Course Committee papers are e-mailed to students so that all students have the opportunity to provide feedback on them to the Courses Committee via their representative.

Employers' Meetings

Your employer will be invited to attend employers' meetings in March and September. They can raise any points on your behalf at this meeting which is attended by the Head of CETC and Course Directors.

Course Evaluation Questionnaires

Course Evaluation Questionnaires are provided at the end of each course, this is your opportunity to let us know how you feel the course has run, how your tutor has helped your progress, and generally how satisfied you are with the course. The information you supply will be used to monitor the quality of course provision.

In addition, short questionnaires during the course will sometimes be distributed to gather views on the progress of the course.

Feedback can be given on any aspect of your studies at CETC at any time, either speak to your tutor or the Course Director by calling the relevant CETC centre on 020 7403 4300 (London and Bristol) / 0121 200 0990 / 0131 559 3605, or emailing our general email address: enquiries@cetc.org.uk.

Spreadsheet’s Student Diary

From early 2006 to the beginning of 2008 in each issue of the bimonthly members' and students' magazine - Spreadsheet - Rohan Tambyraja, a CETC South East student, wrote a student diary column sharing insights into his life as a CETC student working towards passing the professional qualification. The diary discusses how he, and his fellow students, are coping with studying, work, exams, and life as a CIPFA student in general.
